BIO

Kevin Aviance is a pioneering nightlife icon, recording artist, DJ, and performance legend whose influence has shaped generations of LGBTQ nightlife, dance music, and drag performance. Emerging from New York City’s underground club scene in the late 1980s as a member of the legendary House of Aviance, Kevin built a singular career that blends high-fashion spectacle, fierce choreography, and unapologetic queer expression.

Known for electrifying club anthems like “Din Da Da,” “Cunty,” and “Give It Up,” Kevin became a defining voice of the early-2000s club era and an originator of the visual and performance language that helped shape modern queer nightlife. Over the course of his recording career, he released three full-length studio albums — Box of Chocolates, Entity, and HIPPOPOTAMUS! — while earning three Billboard No. 1 Dance Club singles with “Din Da Da,” “Alive,” and “Give It Up.” Those songs, along with “Rhythm Is My Bitch” and “Join In The Chant,” give Kevin five Billboard Dance Club Top 10 singles. Alongside his music career, Kevin became a sought-after DJ and live performer, bringing ballroom attitude, avant-garde drag, and high-energy performance to dance floors around the world.

Kevin’s story is also one of resilience. After surviving a brutal hate crime in 2006 that shocked the LGBTQ community, Kevin became a powerful symbol of perseverance and healing. In recent years, a new generation has rediscovered his music and legacy, including a major cultural resurgence when Beyoncé sampled Kevin’s work on her album Renaissance, introducing his sound and influence to millions of new listeners.

Today, Kevin continues to perform internationally while reflecting on his legacy as one of the architects of queer club culture. Through music, storytelling, and performance, he remains a living bridge between the history of underground queer nightlife and the artists shaping its future.
